All your Association resources. All in one place.
The new www.veanea.org is your one-stop shop for Association news and other resources to help you in your career. From lesson-plan links and content geared for new teachers to dedicated sections for Education Support Professionals and Student members, www.veanea.org deserves a spot among your "Favorites." In this month's e-source, we spotlight some of the great resources you'll find in the site, including the exclusive new Members-Only content.
 
You'll find much of the great information on the new main (or "splash") page in the areas tagged "Top Features" (left-side column) and "VEA News" (middle column). As we launch, for example, we're carrying helpful tips for new teachers, an interview with new VEA President Kitty Boitnott, a news story on the recent march by the Culpeper County Education Association, and much more. The splash page also has quick links to upcoming events and resources to find a job, among other features.
 
The site also features five primary "channels," described below.
 
Channel 1: VEA News & Advocacy
The VEA News & Advocacy channel is where you'll find:
  • The latest issues, plus back issues, of the Virginia Journal of Education, the VEA News, and other publications;
  • Descriptions of VEA's legal services, access to your EEL policy statement, and answers to common legal questions members have;
  • Current information on VEA's legislative platform and activities.
Channel 2: In the Classroom
Look to the In the Classroom channel for:
  • Classroom tips from your colleagues plus discounts on classroom supplies;
  • Special resources especially for new teachers;
  • VEA's Multicultural Calendar, brought to you by the Fitz Turner Commission;
  • Information on VEA and NEA grants and awards;
  • The latest on VEA and regional training and workshops;
  • Targeted resources for those seeking national board certification. 
Channel 3: Parent Resources
In Parent Resources, you'll find plenty of material for parents surfing www.veanea.org, plus downloadable brochures that Association members and leaders can reproduce for their own use with parents and community members.
 
Among the topics covered:
  • NEA-PTA parent guides (multiple topics, downloadable pdf files)
  • Books Your Child Will Love
  • Testing Sense
  • Bus Safety
  • Making the Most of Parent-Teacher Conferences
Channel 4: Working Together
The Working Together channel is where you'll learn what the Association is about—and how to get in touch with your representatives and staff from the Local Association to UniServ offices to VEA headquarters. In addition, this channel features:
  • Separate sections with the latest news and resources for ESPs, VEA-Retired, and Student VEA members. Features include the latest news, publications like VEA-R Connections, and special resources.
  • A Member Savings page with links to the many programs offered exclusively through the VEA and NEA Member Benefits;
  • A listing of VEA Job Vacancies.
Channel 5: Members-Only
VEA members and leaders deserve something extra. The Members-Only channel gives you access to:
  • The "Leader Center," containing tip-filled articles on such topics as building your membership and working with the media;
  • "Compensation Corner," where you'll always find the latest information from VEA on salaries and benefits. PDF files of major reports from VEA on compensation are here for the taking.
  • "Legislation & Policy," where you can access such resources as VEA-PAC materials and the latest from VEA's government relations division;
  • The VEA Election Center, where you can access petitions for office, view candidate information, and learn the latest about VEA statewide elections;
  • VEA governance documents, such as our New Business Items;
  • A "Research the Issues" area where you'll find our latest surveys and reports on school finance, leave policies, teacher contracts, and more.
